All I could think about was “lobster roll”.
My trip to Boston in November for work didn’t allow much sightseeing time, but everyone has to eat, right? And since you have to eat, you may as well make good choices. As a landlocked Saskatonian, my eating plans whenever I get near a coast involve unholy amounts of seafood. And on the east coast, my mind turns to lobster, and in particular, lobster rolls.
You can imagine my glee when I discovered one of Boston’s best lobster rolls was a short two block walk from my hotel in the Back Bay. I strolled into Luke’s Lobster and after being momentarily distracted in noticing that their in-season crab was from New Brunswick (yea Atlantic Canada!), I ordered a lobster roll and with the tiny bit of restraint I had, took time to snap this picture of it in all its crustacean beauty…

That’s a proper lobster roll – all meat, no filling. As somewhat of a sandwich connoisseur, I can say with honesty this was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. It was so good, that I made a second trip back here to scarf one down before heading to the airport on my way out of the city.
Of course I wasn’t going to stop at lobster rolls in my quest to catch up on a prairie-induced seafood deficiency. Boston clam chowder – or clam chowdah as it’s pronounced around these parts – from Legal Seafood is a must have whenever I’m in Boston. It’s wicked good.

And if I’m at Legal Seafood, I need to order something that gives me a sample of many types of seafood, especially when time on the coast is limited. On this visit, shrimp, crab and scallops made me a very, very happy man.

I had one more seafood meal at a place on the water just across the harbour from Logan and could not resist ordering the lobster bisque to start. This was rich and velvety and full of lobster flavour.

And my last taste of seafood in Boston was mussels. Back when I lived in Halifax, a feed of mussels on a Friday after work at a favourite downtown bar was pure comfort food. These made my mind drift back to that.

Although my time and available meals were limited in Boston, when I left the city, it was to head to Halifax for a quick visit with family and knowing that there would be at least a couple of more seafood feeds in my future before heading back to Saskatoon.
That looks awesome!
